Tableau
Tableau is a powerful data visualization platform that lets you create interactive dashboards and views. With Coupler.io, you can automate the export of data from any Tableau view directly to Google Sheets, BigQuery, Excel, or AI destinations like Claude and ChatGPT — no manual downloads needed.
Why connect Tableau to Coupler.io?
Automate data exports — Pull fresh data from your Tableau views on a schedule without manual intervention
Send to multiple destinations — Route Tableau data to Google Sheets, BigQuery, Excel, Looker Studio, or AI tools
Save time — Replace manual CSV downloads with automated, repeatable data flows
Keep dashboards in sync — Ensure your downstream tools always have the latest Tableau data
Prerequisites
Before you start, you'll need:
A Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud account with at least Viewer access to the view you want to export
The view URL from your Tableau instance (you'll copy this from your browser's address bar)
A Coupler.io account and a destination (Google Sheets, BigQuery, Excel, etc.)
Quick tip: This process works best with public Tableau Cloud instances. If you're using a private Tableau Server with IP restrictions or SSL certificates, you may need to allowlist Coupler.io's IP addresses — contact our support team for details.
Quick start
Sign in to Coupler.io and start a new data flow. Choose Tableau as your source.
Paste your Tableau view URL. Go to the Tableau view or dashboard you want to export, copy the full URL from your browser's address bar (it looks like https://MY-SERVER/#/site/SiteName/views/Workbook/View), and paste it into the View URL field.
Choose your destination. Select where you want the Tableau data to land — Google Sheets, BigQuery, Excel, Looker Studio, or an AI destination like Claude or Gemini.
Run the data flow. Click the Run button to fetch data from your Tableau view. Once the manual run completes successfully, your data is ready. From here, you can schedule regular refreshes or keep running it manually.
About Tableau data exports
When you connect a Tableau view to Coupler.io, here's what happens:
Single sheet export — Tableau's API only exports the first sheet of a dashboard alphabetically. If your view has multiple sheets, only the first one (alphabetically) will be pulled.
Data format — Data exports from Tableau maintain their original structure (columns, data types, dates). Dates may display in Tableau's default format; check your destination for formatting options.
View access — You need at least Viewer permissions on the Tableau view. If you can see the view in Tableau, you can export it with Coupler.io.
If your view contains multiple dashboards or sheets and you need data from a specific one, check that the sheet name comes first alphabetically, or contact our support team for guidance on restructuring your Tableau view.
